Working to get your business up and running.
And, once you have it up and running, staying on top of your social media, constantly creating new content, spending hours making a 5-minute video (you know what I’m talking about) and trying to come up with new ways to market in an authentic way to help the people you want to help.
So how long is this 24/7 hustle supposed to go on for?
Exactly! It’s not – because it’s not sustainable!
Many of us, myself included, got sucked into this belief that it’s all about the hustle (which I’ve come to notice is a very masculine driven concept).
However, what I’ve been seeing more and more in the past few years is that more and more entrepreneurs, especially female entrepreneurs, are saying, no!
They’re choosing harmony over hustle. Flow over burnout.
So, what does this mean?
It means working smarter not harder.
A priority becomes taking inventory of what your priorities are in both your business and your life.
It means researching, discovering and creating ways to be more efficient and, doing what Stephen Covey recommended, “keep the main thing, the main thing”.
The next question is, how do we do this?
Well, of course, there are many different ways to work so that you’re doing what needs to get done without sacrificing your health and happiness. (This is a key theme in my How to Transform Stress to Success© digital course.)
However, I’m going to share this 3-step process to help get you started!
- What are the top priorities in your business right now? What are the top priorities in your life right now? Make a list and write them down.
- Practice the 3 D’s: do, delegate, dump. What do you need to do for your business and for your life that no one else can do? What can you delegate and to whom will you delegate it? What needs to be dumped because it’s not working or isn’t really a priority at this point in time? Make a list and then take action!
- Reality check. We all know “reality tv” isn’t real, right? Well, guess what? All those top successful female entrepreneurs that look like they’re doing it all – running a successful business, are in a happy marriage and have a family and/or large team they’re taking care of – do you know what their reality is? The transparent ones will tell you they have help – and a lot of it!
What are Denise and Amy doing?
For example, Denise Duffield-Thomas, who runs a multi-million dollar online business that she started from scratch, is not afraid to say that she has hired a housekeeper to grocery shop, do laundry and make meals for her, her husband and their 3 children. She’s also not afraid to say that after she hired her husband to come work for her, they had troubles and did some marriage counseling. Denise grew up poor but as she slowly grew her business, she hired people to help her – both with her business and her family.
Amy Porterfield, who also runs a multi-million dollar online business has shared that she struggles with her weight and depression. She also acknowledges that she’s very driven and can get too caught up in her work. Last year she and her team experimented with going to a 4-day work week and have made it work. She even took over a month off this summer – which she confessed was a challenge for her because she’s been used to hustling for many years. She openly shares that she works with a counselor and coaches to help her with her struggles. Plus, her husband recently retired as a fire-fighter and they’ve had to negotiate that big life change.
The point is that whether you’re running a multi-7-figure business, a 5-figure business or whether you’re just starting out, no one does it alone!
Are you going to have to work hard? Yes, of course!
Do you have to hustle 24/7? No, you don’t!
