Whether we like it or not, we’re living in an age of “influencers”. Yep, 20- and 30-somethings on social media with tens and hundreds of thousands – even a million+ followers. By influencing their followers, they’re monetizing their social media following by partnering with companies with something to sell. (Making anywhere from $88 a post upward to $750K if you’re Selena Gomez to over $1M by the top guy, Cristiano Ronaldo.)
So, who’s influencing you?
Actually, without checking social media, I can tell you right now who has the most influence on your daily thoughts, feelings and actions.
Drum roll please…
Yes, it’s you!
Or rather your self-talk that’s running constantly in the background. Our internal dialogue may be swayed by the latest influencer, but the majority of our self-talk is negative. And, it comes from limiting beliefs.
So where do these limiting beliefs come from?
Usually from someone significant in our childhood like parents or teachers. They can also come from an event like being laughed at in Grade 5 when you were asked to read aloud in class and you stumbled over your words.
Here are some examples of limiting beliefs:
- I’m not smart enough to be successful in business.
- I’m too old, too young, too fat, too skinny, etc.
- I’m not a good public speaker (Grade 5 incident I mentioned earlier).
- Money is the root of all evil so I better not make too much.
- People are already doing what I want to do in business so I may as well not even try.
- You have to have a University degree to write a book.
- All the good ones are taken. I’ll never find love.
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
The first thing to realize is that everyone has limiting beliefs!
The second thing to know is that you can clear them out!
How?
Step 1. Start exploring the limiting beliefs that you have. Reflect on how they’re “influencing” your personal and professional life.
Step 2. Use tools like Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping) to start clearing them out. (If you’re not familiar with EFT, check on the tutorial on my home page.)
Step 3. Work with a Success Mindset Coach if you want to dig deeper to clear out the roots of the limiting beliefs. A Mindset Coach can also help you replace your limiting beliefs with empowering ones!
I love working with my coaching clients helping them identify and clear out limiting beliefs. I also love hearing from them and how quickly they notice things shifting in their lives – both personally and professionally!
