Is Your Check Engine Light On?

Recently I was driving on the highway about 45 minutes from home when all of a sudden, my car lost power, the check engine light came on and I had to pull off to the side of the road. It was a bit of a shock considering I’d just had a maintenance check done a month before and everything looked good.

After a very lovely tow truck driver got me and my vehicle safely home, I had my mechanic come and check things out. It ended up being a very easy fix but something that hadn’t shown up on the computer scan during the maintenance check a few weeks before.

Sometimes in our business (and life), things are moving along smoothly and then all of a sudden there’s an unforeseen issue. But, more often than not, there actually are some “check engine light” signs we get ahead of time that we chose to ignore.

• Like needing to upgrade some software but putting it off until there’s an issue.
• Checking your freebie funnel but not in enough detail and people end up not receiving what they signed up for.
• Hiring the wrong person to take care of your website and social media.

We can’t control everything. However, when we get a warning sign, even if it’s just a small intuitive nudge, paying attention and taking action can save us a lot of time and aggravation down the road.
